Jane and Ryan’s Enchanted Fall Wedding Reception at Taughannock Falls

When I arrived at the Inn at Taughannock Falls to set up for Jane & Ryan’s live wedding painting, I could sense that it was going to be a magical Fall night! 

Setting my easel for their reception, I could see that Katharine Phillips Event & Design and her team had transformed the white tent into an enchanted forest, with paper lanterns casting a warm glow over tables dressed in rich green linens. As a live event painter, these thoughtful design elements created the perfect scene to capture on canvas.

I positioned myself to capture the sweeping view of the reception, where the interplay of natural and ambient lighting created an atmospheric setting. The tent’s elegant structure framed the celebration beautifully, while offering glimpses of the fall foliage beyond. I’m so thankful for the couple’s photographer, Ricky Rodriguez Photography for capturing the space so beautifully, and even getting a few behind the scenes photos of me painting!

The bride’s princess-style Martina Liana ballgown and the groom’s statement burgundy suit provided perfect focal points as they moved through their reception festivities.

What made this painting particularly special was incorporating all the personalized touches that made their celebration unique – from the movie-inspired details (a nod to the venue owner’s Hollywood connection) to subtle Buffalo Bills elements. 

The layered storytelling in their decor gave me wonderful details to weave into the painting: pumpkins and gourds mixed with lush florals in burgundy, purple, and blush tones, creating that perfect autumn-meets-fairytale aesthetic.

As the evening progressed and the paper lanterns began to glow more prominently, the scene took on an even more magical quality. These shifting lighting conditions allowed me to capture that ethereal moment when day transitions to evening – one of my favorite challenges as a live wedding painter.

Their celebration exemplified everything I love about painting wedding receptions – the perfect blend of grand moments and intimate details, all coming together to tell one couple’s unique love story through art.
